PRINT E-MAIL MoreDavid McLaughlinDavid McLaughlin, the Maine woodsman as well as skidder user who relished his supporting purpose on the Discovery reality array 'American Loggers,' died April 23, his employer told the Bangor Daily News this week. He was 45 as well as suffered from the serious diabetic condition.

McLaughlin, who went by Davey, is well known to Discovery viewers for being the hardworking, good-natured logger. His struggles with diabetes were often documented on the show, as well as fans got to know his clarity of humor.
'American Loggers' follows the work of the Pelletier logging operation in Maine. Rudy Pelletier told the Bangor News which McLaughlin's condition often kept him off the job.

"He could not control his diabetes. He was carrying problems," Pelletier said. "We had to release him [from work] from time to time so which he could get his illness on track. It used to unequivocally concern me when you were out in the woods working."

Unlike AMC's 'Ax Men,' which also deals with logging, 'American Loggers' delves in to the personal as well as the veteran lives of the subjects. Pelletier believes viewers felt the connection with McLaughlin's illness difficulties after watching him on the tiny screen. Watch the Clip

"He favourite it whenever you had to go on appearances as well as meet people," Pelletier said. "He was actually the star of the show. Everywhere you went, people wanted to know how he was doing."

McLaughlin is survived by dual sons, 18-year-old Ryan McLaughlin as well as 23-year-old Adam McLaughlin as well as the long-time girlfriend, Laurie Carey.
